American Toys: Past and Present

American toys have been around for as long as we can remember. In the beginning American toys were simple items such as balls, dolls, cars and trucks and believe it or not these American toys are still around today. When you think American toys; Barbie, matchbox cars, Legos and GI Joes instantly come to mind. If you purchased one of these items when they first hit the market and kept them in good condition they are very valuable today. When you think about American toy manufacturers Playschool and Mattel are at the top of the list. These companies have been around for a very long time and many people grew up playing with them, they have produced one great toy after another and still continue to do so. American toys have evolved with time just like everything else in this amazing world. They have to be of interest to kids today in this high tech world. You can now send Barbie on amazing adventures through your computer, or play fashion designers with her many outfits. Her family has expanded and now includes friends, siblings and pets. Matchbox cars has also created an online presence, they have changed the design of there vehicles to offer some really far out cars and trucks. Cool racing vehicles and vintage automobiles are always going to be popular. GI Joe is now nearly extinct which probably makes him one of the most valuable American toys you can own. Legos now have cool themes like pirate, knights in shining armor or sci-fi creatures. Although these classic American toys are still available many more have been added to the list. Step inside any American home with children and you will find Legos, video games and plenty of high tech toys to amuse your child for hours. Some children even have there own computer. Many American toys are modeled after characters on popular televisions shows like Barney and Dora the Explorer. These characters often come and go and the more popular ones become collectors’ items, like GI Joe and Barbie. If you want to have a special toy that you will keep as a collector’s item, the best idea is to keep it in its original wrapper. That will usually make it more valuable. Yet the real fun of American toys is that children love to play with them and use them to the fullest extent. To handle this, you can get one toy for collecting and an identical one for play. Another option is to get great, sturdy American toys that will hold up to any kind of use your children dish out. There certainly has been a wide variety in children’s toys, both in the past and in the present. Children enjoy playing make believe from an early age, and continue to do so long after they are sometimes willing to admit. In fact, some parents even have been known to get on the floor and play with Tonka trucks or baby dolls with their children. It often appears that they are having as much fun as their children. That is one way American toys are a part of a happy family.

A brief history of the GI Joe action figure and why you should buy them at a GI Joe store or over the internet

GI Joes are a line of action figures that were produced first in the US by a toy making company called Hasbro. The line features a set of figures that are representative of ground forces, air, and navy. These GI Joe action figures have been a steady inspiration for children who grow into adults, wanting to live out the adventure and have contributed to the recruitment into US armed forces over the years.   The figures instil patriotism and it’s not just children who are fans but millions of adults around the world engage in collecting these action figures by buying them from exclusive GI Joe stores or from eBay and other internet websites that sell these figures.   The original action figure that was launched in 1964 was a 12 inch male action figure which diversified into two toy lines, with the one in the US being called by its original name and the other which hit the UK markets came to be called Action Man.   Over the years many different sets were launched with many themes and story lines contributed to by animated shows that complemented the line on TV. The size of the GI Joe action figure was cut down to just under four inches and vehicles and sets were also included.   The story lines always were centred on the ongoing conflict between the good GI Joe action team and the evil cobra outfit. This is probably the first action figure series that spawned cartoons, comics and movies after it rather than the other way around.   GI Joe action figures were launched subsequent to the immense popularity of the Barbie doll series with young girls. The makers realized the potential for a boy oriented action figure based on a military theme centred on the fight between good and evil that spelled action and adventure, something that young boys take a fancy to.   The line was launched with a post world war theme initially but later on went on to adopt a unique story line. Such was the popularity of these figures that soon GI Joe stores were selling these figures across America and within a year these figures were found in toy stores in Europe as well.   Although the GI Joe fever died down with Hasbro stopping their production and moving onto more lucrative toys and figures, their popularity continues unabated to this day. Those who have grown up in the company of these toys and owned them when they were children still cherish and preserve these GI Joe action figures with great care.   Collecting action figures is a hobby which is indulged in by both adults and children, with the children more focused on playing with them while the adults collect them as a hobby or as an investment. A vintage GI Joe action figure could fetch thousands of dollars in the market today depending on its rarity. There are people who buy and sell action figures for hundreds and thousands of dollars each year.   Those that collect it often take care not to have even the packaging damaged, hoping that a few years down the lane, the price of these figures increase exponentially and they can sell it for a huge profit by selling them to stores that buy these vintage figures or online websites that buy and sell them.

There is a huge list of GI Joe Action Figures from different genres that you could choose to buy online from GI Joe Store Online. If you have been looking for a GI Joe Store, you know your search ends here!

The evolution of the GI Joe action figure and the action figure collecting craze fuelled by internet GI Joe stores

The Hasbro company in the early part of the sixties right in the heat of the cold war situation, introduced a new line of toys which coined the term action figures. These toys were named GI Joe and were modelled after American soldiers in World War II and were of the similar dimensions as the Barbie doll figure which was a big hit with young girls who fancied having dolls. The GI Joe series on the other hand targeted young boys by incorporating a military and action adventure theme which most boys of a young age are fascinated with.   The original production included a series of 12 inch male figures which wore US military uniforms and had 21 moving parts. These figures were named action figures in order to give them a separate identity to that of the placid Barbie dolls that were in vogue. With time, military equipment pieces, arms and artillery, vehicles and even large sets were manufactured for theme based play using these action figures. A story line was created later which featured antagonists that were lacking until then. The story centred on the unabated conflict between the elite GI Joe team and the vicious cobra gang.   The first year of production and sales saw the GI Joe action figures being launched in a few retail stores initially, and then spreading across stores in America at a rapid pace with increasing popularity. There were GI Joe stores that were set up for selling these action figures exclusively as the line expanded and the number of figures grew.   These toys were ideal for imaginative play for boys at a young age and were a huge hit not only in America but soon expanded into GI Joe stores in Europe and other parts of the world as well. The popularity waned when the Vietnam War happened and everything associated with warfare and military lost its appeal and by the late seventies these figures were out of production.   The popularity sparked on and off until the time when collecting action figures became an obsession with children and adults alike. Those young and old men who grew up playing with GI Joe action figures and were careful enough to preserve them so that one day , their children could use it, suddenly found them a great way to earn money. The more vintage and rate the figure was, the more money it fetched. With the advent of the internet, the selling of collectibles and toy action figures reached a peak as there were many websites that specialized in buying and selling these figures.   The most popular collectibles that were bought and sold for huge amounts of money, were the GI Joe action figures, the fact that some of them dated back to the sixties made them sell for as high as a few thousand dollars. The price of a vintage GI Joe action figure could touch 5000 USD easily.   The less damaged and battle scarred it is, the more money it would fetch. There are many online GI Joe stores that buy these figures and pay handsomely for them. They then sell these for a greater price. EBay is another website were mass buying and selling of GI Joe action figures takes place.

Are you looking for a GI Joe Store ? You can buy a variety of GI Joe Action Figures online that are genuine and affordable at GIJoe Store Online.

SELLERS & BUYERS WANTED

Virtual Boutiques Mall Shops (VBMShops) is a “street of shops” and was started with four things in mind. . . the first is to be the First and Only Online Auction Boutique Mall for Antique, Vintage and New merchandise and goods. . . two, is to be the lowest fees of any site on the internet. Three is to put the VBMShop member first and foremost by offering premier customer service, equal feedback and more and finally four is to provide an opportunity for all non profits at no cost to increase their available operating capital. For the next 60 days you can sell as many items as you wish with all of the bells and whistles you desire for nothing, nada, nil… and this is just for you to try us out. We hope that you will find that the VBMShop concept is more fitting to how you buy and sell and that our policies and prices are fairer than any other auction or non-auction venue on the internet. VBMShops will be opening 30+ specialty shop boutiques over the next few months. Each will have the look and feel of the merchandise. Each shop will have a “shopkeeper” who will be an expert in most of the merchandise being sold on the site. The shopkeeper can advise the sellers and buyers on trends, good buys and basically share their special expertise. Currently we have three boutiques open and ready for sellers and buyers. The first is Vintage Gems Emporium where you will find it easy to sell or buy your antique, vintage and new costume and fine jewelry in either an auction and/or a fixed price venue. It is here where you will find designer signed jewelry from the 1960’s or fabulous and sparkly rhinestones for the upcoming prom season. All in all there are over 250 categories and subcategories to shop or sell in. Gabrielle is the shopkeeper for the Gems Site. Gabrielle’s extensive experience in collecting and selling antique and vintage costume jewelry has prepared her to assist you on your “exciting gems journey”. She will be contributing fun recounts of her own experiences and will predict upcoming trends to look out for. She will also seek the expertise of other jewelry addicts to share their stories with the VBMShops family. The hope is that Gabrielle can give you the confidence needed to create a successful business on VBMShops. The second fabulous boutique is Just 4 Collectibles. This boutique is like a great flea market and features vintage and newer merchandise that appeals to the all round collector who just loves things. This boutique  will feature snowglobes, figurines, comic books, militaria, and more, Just 4 Collectibles has over 300 categories in which to choose to sell that Star Wars or Barbie Doll collection you have been holding onto. Jacquie is the collectibles shopkeeper. Jacquie has owned a collectibles shop for the past 15 years. She knows what is hot and what is not and will share these insights with all who are interested. The third and I think one of the most exciting boutiques is Arts Antiques Galleria. This boutique is like a high end arts and antique shop where you can sell and buy original and reproduction artworks by famous artists, antiquities, furniture and other great antique finds. There are again over 250 categories and subcategories to sell and shop in. Nancy Romness is the shop’s resident artist. Nancy works in numerous mediums and can be commissioned to paint your child, your pet or your home. Her landscapes are breathtaking and her artwork is unique and identifiable. The boutique’s shopkeeper is Clive. Clive is from Dublin Ireland and comes from a long line of art and antique afficionados. His great uncle, Sir Richard was sculptor to England’s Queen Victoria. Sir Richard reached such acclaim that when he died in 1856 he was buried in Westminister Abbey. Clive had owned and operated his own fine antiques shop in London until 1995 and is now retired and ready to write his memoirs. As the arts antiques shopkeeper, his articles will enlighten and regale even the most experienced arts and antiques lover and discernible collector. The next boutiques to be opened within the next couple weeks will be Vintage Clothing & Accessories, New and Used Clothing and Accessories, Sporting Goods, Sports Memorabilia and Home and Garden. More boutiques to come will include Stamps and Coins, Books and Ephemera, Antique and Vintage Motor Vehicles, Toys and Hobbies, Ethnic Boutique, The Capitals of the World Boutique, The Luxury and One of a Kind Boutique, Baby and Toddler, Bed and Bath, Beauty & Health, Bridal, Electronics, Kitchen Gourmet and so much more.

I have had a fabulous life so far. For the first 40 years of my life I worked all around the world doing massive retail design projects. I have met almost every living fashion designer and architect out there. Throughout my travels I collected everything interesting that I could find and thus have an incredible assortment of fine and rare antiques, art and signed and rare jewelry. Most recently over the past 15 years I have become entrenched in the eBay phenom and as a result have started my own auction venue at www. VBMShops. com. What makes this site different is that VBMShops is comprised of specialty shop boutiques all in an auction and fixed price venue. These sites not only look great but are easy to use. . . sort of the “body and bones” of eBay but the “heart and soul” of a fine boutique found in any of the world capitals. Come see us and SELL & BUY to your hearts content.

What are Classic Toys? No Batteries!

Electronic gadgets and video games top the list of most popular kids toys, among all ages. But are you looking for something different?  As a child, you probably remember your favorite childhood toy.   That same wave of nostalgia can guide you while shopping for the perfect classic toy for that special child in your life! Whether you shop online or at a  local store for kids toys, it can be a bit overwhelming, especially when there are tons of toys and games from which to select.   If you are looking for something different guaranteed to put a smile on your favorite child’s face, then you should consider giving a classic toy, or maybe a few of them. Many parents and children enjoy spending quality time together playing classic board games.   Today video games are popular, however, they do not allow much interaction between children and parents.   There are always the classic games that encourages family participation. Other family-oriented games that children can play with their parents include checkers, chess, pool, jig-saw puzzles, dart boards, air hockey tables, and shuffle boards. If you’re shopping for a little boy, then you may decide on a ride-on toy, flag football set, authentic camping set, archery set, die-cast vehicles, rubber horse shoes kit, arcade shooting games, bummer cars, pedal toys, tin toys, and wooden building toys.   Nothing says classic toys better than a toy tractor and trailer! There are also just as many kids toys when it comes to shopping for a special occasion for that special little girl.   Of course Barbie dolls are always a hit, especially the 1959 original Barbie doll.   Other toys include Barbie accessories and products, tea sets, toy kitchens and cookware, toy market stores, or colorful frilly girly chairs, small couches, ottomans, pillows and blankets. Are you looking for something with a little more personal touch to make the gift more memorable?  Bookshelves, step stools, rocking chairs, backpacks, mirrors, and coat racks are all great kids toys for either a boy or girl.   Adding attention to detail by personalizing the gift you decide on shows that you put extra thought into the selection. Parents looking for kids toys that help the child to develop both socially and emotionally, are in luck because there are tons of options!  Depending on the age of the child, there are educational toys for every age.   Babies learn their surroundings by playing with brightly colored toys from musical animals, activity blocks and waterproof toys at bath time.   Early childhood toys and activity books teach children valuable skills such as reading and telling time.   Older children might be more difficult to shop for but toys such as a Lite Bright or replica of a NASA rocket complete with outfit would be great.   Classic toys do not need batteries and are truly a wonderful way to spend quality time with your family and teach children valuable skills to succeed in life!

Classic toys are lots of fun and no batteries needed! Check out classic toys here.
